The mission of the Unity Leadership Programs is to engage and empower a new generation of youth working for social change.

Unity Leadership Programs do not have any religious content, they are strictly Social Justice in nature. Youth of all relgious paths are encouraged to apply.

Inspire a new generation of change agents.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • Help the youth understand their values and how to live and work in a multicultural society;
  • Increase youth awareness of the root causes of injustice;
  • Help youth develop their own talents and leadership skills;
  • Support the youth in discovering the power they have to create systemic change.

ELIGIBILITY
Unity Retreats: All youth who apply will be accepted into the Retreats. The focus of the retreats is on the individual – their values and how they make decisions. The retreat is a live action interview for acceptance into the Unity Summer Internship Program.

Unity Summer Internship: Selection is made from youth who have completed 9th, 10th or 11th grade, are willing to commit to 200 hours of training and work between June16th and August 22nd and who meet program criteria. Attendance at one of the two Unity Retreats is mandatory.

DATES AND DETAILS Unity Retreats:

  • Registration forms for the February 29th – March 1st Unity Retreat are due Sunday, February 24th.
  • Registration forms for the March 14th – 15th Unity Retreat are due Tuesday, March 4th.
  • Unity Retreat dates are February 29th – March 1st and March 14th -15th.
    • These are overnight retreats.
    • The retreat will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday and run until 4:00 PM on Saturday.
Unity Summer Internship Application Process:
  • Application forms for the Unity Summer Internship Program are due on Monday, April 7th.
    • Application instructions will be available at the retreats. No interviews will take place.
    • Send applications to Debra Rodgers, Program Director, First Universalist Church, 3400 Dupont Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55408. Fax number (612)825-8879.
  • Notification letters will be mailed out on Friday, April 18th.
  • Youth must inform us if they accept the internship by Thursday, May 1st.
  • Youth will be informed of their worksite placement and receive their job description by Monday, May 12th.
Unity Summer Internship Program:
  • A parent/ intern informational meeting will be held on Thursday, May 22nd at 7:00 PM.
  • The Unity Summer Internship Program 2008 officially begins Monday, June 16h.
  • Intern Orientation and training will be held on Monday, June 16th and Tuesday June 17th.
    • The worksite experience will begin on Wednesday, June 18th.
    • Additional trainings will be held on Fridays: June 27, July11th, and July 25st.
  • Celebration will be held on Thursday, August 14st.
  • Interns must complete the 170 hours of work by Friday, August 22nd.
