How to Get Started

There are a number of ways to become involved in Faith in Action efforts at First Universalist.

Join an Existing Action Group or Special Project: There are a variety of Action Groups at First Universalist ranging from Unity Leadership to Native American Connections. Special Projects include activities like the Global Gift Fair, the Joyce Food Shelf collection, and Warm Hands-Warm Hearts.

Form a new Action Group:
These working groups are an expression of the tremendous passion and energy of our congregants!  A church member or friend convenes at least 5 people around a specific issue they wish to address over a   relatively long period of time. To become an Action Group:

Step 1: Organize Your Group. Convene a meeting with other members interested in the issue. Promote the meeting by using the LIBERAL, Cyber Coffee Hour, etc. Determine your committee leadership – the chair or one of the co-chairs must be a First Universalist member.

Step 2: Develop a plan with Measurable Goals. This is a challenging, important task. Talk with the Director of Faith in Action and complete the Discernment Request. (Separate document)  Since project budgets are approved once a year, your group may need to use its own resources until your budget is approved in the spring.

Step 3: Submit Your Plan for Review with the Director of Faith in Action.

Develop a Special Project:
Our congregants have great ideas that are time limited or only require the talents of one or two people. We call these Special Projects. For example, the Global Gift Fair requires only two members to pull it together, is time limited and is of minimal cost.  The steps to take are:

Step 1. Write up a brief proposal describing the project. Include the name of the  organization or project, who the beneficiaries are, resources needed, time frame, etc.

Step 2.  Submit your description. Submit your description to the Director of Faith in Action for approval.
