Communications Policies

(Approved by the Board of Trustees, April 17, 2003)

Good communications are essential in an organization as large and complex as First Universalist. Members need to understand where to find information, and leaders and staff need to know how best to communicate with members. These policies are meant to aid in that process. They do so within two very important parameters:

  • The church itself and the sanctuary wing in particular are places of worship first and foremost. Both members and visitors should be able to feel that they have stepped into a spiritual space. Whatever communications (oral or printed) occur in this place must be carefully presented in a manner that does not impinge on the meditative character of worship.

  • We are blessed with a rich variety of programs, activities and groups, most of which desire to be better known and to have more participants. Yet there is only a finite amount of time and space within our communication resources. One role of these policies is to assure equal access to those resources-which inevitably means some constraints.
