Communication Policies:
Policies for Flyers

A. Background
Groups frequently wish to distribute flyers to those attending Sunday morning services. While this is a useful means of publicizing events, care needs to be taken to preserve the worshipful nature of those services.

B. Policies

1) It is never appropriate to hand out flyers or other materials inside the sanctuary prior to services unless approved by the officiating minister.

2) It is not appropriate to hand out flyers or other materials in the narthex or lower level entry prior to services unless approved by the officiating minister.

3) Only one group on a given Sunday may hand out flyers in the narthex or lower level entry after services. Requests to do so must be made to the Communications Coordinator in advance, and clearance will normally be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

4) Materials of institutional significance (e.g. those related to the financial canvass) may take precedence, even if another group had made a request sooner.

5) Groups within First Universalist that are subject to the governance structure (in most cases, responsible to the Board or All Church Council; also the AUW) will have priority over groups affiliated with First Universalist but not part of the our church (e.g. TRUST).

6. The distribution of flyers for personal or non-church related reasons in the narthex, lower level entry, or sanctuary is not permissible (e.g. electoral materials, personal garage sales, political events or rallies).

7. The officiating minister shall be the final authority if conflicts or disagreements occur that cannot be resolved by the Communications Coordinator.
