AUW Visioning

Join an AUW Visioning Dialogue this spring!

What’s this about?

AUW has been an important force in the life of First Universalist since 1905—with our efforts to build community, deepen spirit, and work collectively for women’s justice. With 103 years of learning, we think it makes sense to enter into a “spirit of inquiry” — to discover the essential nature of AUW at our best – our collective wisdom about our organizational strengths and potentials— and to create dreams and aspirations for our future. The vision we create will inspire and unite us in achieving these common dreams.

Our plan is to convene small groups of women— in existing and new circles— engage in a 90 minute dialogue around a few powerful questions. AUW’s Vision Team will be scheduling facilitated dialogues at church, the April Retreat, and other venues. In addition, many Friendship Groups and other existing women’s circles will be facilitating a dialogue. Detailed notes will be taken—without identifying names—allowing us to study and interpret the collective responses and draft an inspiring statement describing our future three years out. A final vision statement will be created for approval at AUW’s annual meeting on Sunday, May 18.

The Visioning Questions are powerful and deep. We ask that each dialogue group choose one or two questions to address from the list below and to create space for each woman respond in the context of their personal experience at church and with AUW. See Tips for Facilitating a Visioning Dialogue to learn about our suggested process.

The questions are:

  1. When have you most felt like you were part of a beloved community? What was going on? What did it feel like? Who was involved?
  2. Remember a time when you felt your spirit move and deepen. What happened? How did it feel? Who was involved? What made it so powerful?
  3. When were we (AUW) at our best in manifesting our religious imperative to create a better world for women? What did we do? Who was involved? Why was it so powerful?

Because AUW is part of the whole, the vision we draft will support the larger vision of First Universalist Church. The timing is perfect, with our new church vision acting as an overarching frame for AUW’s vision.
