About Us

Our AUW Story

Organizational Structure

AUW is governed by a seven to eleven member board of directors. The slate of candidates is proposed by a board appointed nominating committee and endorsed for one year terms at the annual membership meeting, held routinely in May. In addition to the annual meeting, the board calls a general membership meeting for the same date in December as the Holiday Tea.

AUW operates under the aegis of First Universalist Church, although with a separate budget, and is affiliated with the UU Women’s Federation, one of two associate members of the Unitarian Universalist Association.

In addition to a nominating and budget committee the board appoints an individual or committees to oversee AUW’s membership, communications, and program functions. Members of our 2007-08 Board of Directors are listed below.

Betsy Allis, President Beth Malmberg, Secretary Liz Permar, Treasurer Jody Beresford, Reproductive Rights Campaign Liaison Carol Johnson, Program Chair, SJ Coordinator Rebecca Pournoor, Friday Dinner & Discussion Coordinator Sylvia Rudolph, Daytime Events & Legacy Coordinator Caren Stelson, Membership Chair, Friendship Group Coordinator Kris Wright, Daytime Events Coordinator

How we work together

Our Board Covenant

In the fall of 2007, AUW board members developed a powerful AUW Board Covenant to inspire us to manifest our highest values in our work together. We invite other groups to use or adapt our covenant.

In support of our AUW mission to Build Community, Deepen our Spiritual Lives, and act for Social Justice, we Covenant together to create a Beloved Community that embraces the values of a “Spirit of Hospitality”. These shared values include:

Listening and Responding deeply, with Openness, Honesty and Care;
Trusting in good Faith and Intention, and Speaking well of one another;
Respecting Differences and Accepting Boundaries and Acting to Resolve Conflict;
Acknowledging and Honoring the Accomplishments of others, including
those who have come before us;
Acting with Kindness, Support, Patience, and Forgiveness;
Intentionally weaving Spiritual Practices in our meetings and gatherings;
Working Collaboratively, Productively, and Responsibly with Joy.

In the Spirit of Friendship, we Commit to Working to Fulfill AUW’s Vision, Purpose and Goals.
