Music and Visual Arts
The arts are important elements in worship and church life. Our services
offer a variety of quality music, while our visual arts volunteers bring beauty
to our space in many ways.
For more information about musical ensembles including
rehearsal schedules, click on the following links.
Professional Leadership
- John Jensen serves as Music Director and pianist. John has a Masters degree from
the University of Southern California and was an Artist in Residence at Grinnell College
for many years before moving to the Twin Cities. He is well-known in the region as a solo
performer, ensemble player, accompanist and recording artist. John is equally at home with
the classical repertoire and modern jazz.
- Janice Hunton serves as Choral Director. A graduate of Indiana University and a
member of the Dale Warland Singers for several years, Janice is head of the music
department at the Perpich Center for Arts Education (i.e. the Minnesota state arts high school).
Music Committee
In collaboration with the music
director, the Music Committee works to plan and execute special music programs, encourage involvement of the congregation (including youth), maintain a focus on music as
an integral part of the First Universalist community, and provide outreach to the broader
community through music programming.
Visual Arts
This all-volunteer committee has a variety of responsibilities
for the appearance of our church home. These include:
Sunday Morning Floral Arrangements: Each display is
hand-crafted by a volunteer. Contributions in honor of special events or special people
are always welcome to help defray the costs.
Seasonal Decorations: A special decor is created for the
holiday season and for other important events in the church year.
Exhibitions: A series of displays of original art is presented
in the social hall (lower level). Artists are chosen competitively, and each display is
shown for about six weeks. Please see the list of
exhibitors for 2006-2007.
Anyone is welcome to participate in the activities of the committee. Contact the church
office at (612) 825-1701 for more information.
